Australia News - 12/11/02 : Labor rules out support for unilateral US
action to insist upon a United Nations approval of war, before
an attack on Iraq takes place, it now leaves the U.S. in a quandary.
The entire justification for the U.S. in its action against Iraq is that
it has weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), and that Saddam Hussein cannot
be trusted to use it indiscriminately, although the same argument could
be addressed to the states of North Korea, Israel, India and Pakistan,
who all find themselves "threatened" and retain WMD.
If indeed the U.S. does
determine upon "unilateral action" against Iraq, rather than follow the
constructive solutions presented to it, such as Troy Davis of the World Citizen Foundation:
activities or the Peaceplangroup` s PPG Features
Iraq or Hussein then itself stands in breach of international
law. However, if the U.N. was also to demonstrate consistency in its policies
and conduct, then it would have to declare sanctions on the U.S.
