Osama Bin Laden

Description

This man could be described as the Prodigal son from his home land in Saudi Arabia, where this Saudi prince came from which "to lead the Saudi contingent" in Afghanistan, but he was rejected upon his return in 1991 for anti government activities, and had his Saudi citizenship revoked in 1994 Osama Bin Laden: How the U.S. : SF Indymedia

Robert Fisk described him from his adopted home in Afghanistan, in 1993 as "Mr Bin Laden looks every inch the mountain warrior of Mujahedin legend" Saudi Arabia Mail Archive: Ussamah Bin Laden ... a closer look at the man, the phenomenon ... whereas the United States describes him as;

"Wanted in connection with the August 7th, 1998, bombings of the United States embassies in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya. These attacks killed over 200 people. In addition, Bin Laden is a suspect in other terrorist attacks throughout the world."

In essence, the man was regarded as a saviour by some, and a terrorist by others depending on the time and the viewpoint.

Effect on Capitalism

UBL`s family construction business in Saudi Arabia began the road of wealth creation for the young UBL, and in his earliest days in Afghanistan was accredited with the construction of the first road to Kandahar, however the family business had built a tunnel complex in Saudi Arabia, and it was this speciality which was seen to be the future of UBL in Afghanistan at Khost. The tunnel system at Khost was developed from old irrigation trenches and caves in order to allow the Mujahedin to attack the Russians from the rear and disappear again (as the North Vietnamese had done to Americans during the Vietnam war). In the meantime UBL was amassing a military, political, religious and financial fortune Pravda.RU Jonathan Steele: Bin Laden may flee in tunnels.

With a personal fortune of $250-300 million, UBL could be considered a significant threat, although the 1996 With a personal fortune of $250-300 million, UBL could be considered a significant threat, although the 1996 U.S. Anti-Terrorist Act Free Speech and Assembly Act allowed the US to freeze his assets it does not appear to have prevented him from pursuing his own Jihad (http://www.peaceplangroup.assets.org.uk/www.submission.orgijihad

UBL came from a wealthy construction family in Saudi, and continued the family business of making money. Whilst his initial moves in Afghanistan may have been constructive with the development of the field hospitals at Khost and the first road to Kandahar, his personal fortune combined with his later disillusionment with the West cultured him as a significant threat.

Effect on Democracy

While UBL was fighting for the capitalist version of freedom and democracy against the Russian invasion of Afghanistan (for the Russian version of freedom and democracy), UBL was considered a saviour by the Afghans, and a useful asset by the Western powers of US, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan who supported him and his followers in one of the final battlefields of the Cold war BBC NEWS | World | South Asia | Who is Osama Bin Laden?

One hundred thousand of the Islamic movement from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, with a common ingredient of Muslim religion, came together to defend Afghanistan. This became the root which evolved some of them into the Al Qa`ida network Al-Qa'ida (the Base)

Following disillusionment with Saudi Arabia and the West, the post Afghanistan era saw a new facet of UBL The US reported UBL to have attacked the World Trade Center in 1993, and later in 1998, US Embassies in Tanzania and Kenya, of course UBL was accused of the attack on the World Trade Centre in September 2001 FBI Websites Document Evidence Against Bin Laden

Summary

Osama Bin Laden is a prodigal son in his home land, a "mountain warrior" in Afghanistan, and a "most wanted fugitive" and terrorist in the US.

Capitalism has created a small nation of individual multi millionaires like UBL, and Trans National Corporations (TNC`s), each with the influence and power of a small nation. The numbers of this global oligarchy are growing, and affecting more and more of global decisions. (see Russian oligarchies and state manufactured Capitalism in NATO Research Fellowships 1994-1996

Some of these oligarch`s provide constructive global decisions like Bob Geldof`s Liveaid project Live Aid- A Celebration or the Royal and Sun Alliance support of first aid training in Third world countries Red Cross Red Crescent despite WTC attacks cost Royal and Sun Alliance $294M - 2001-11-08 - Charlotte Business Journal (see also Prism), or Imran Khan`s hospitals projects in Pakistan IMRAN KHAN - Research paper, life history, achievements by Nawed Ibrahim

Some oligarch decisions, however, have purely selfish motives and self seeking purposes, for example industrial disasters in highly populated residential areas Union Carbide Bhopal Disaster -- 1984 EM-DAT: OFDA/CRED Natural Disaster Profile of Industrial accident George Soros` currency trading role in the British exit out of the Exchange Rate Mechanism, affected interest rates and the British economy for years The United Kingdom Parliament and, bearing in mind the "innocent until proven guilty" adage, whoever did attack the World Trade Centre to name but three.

What is entirely clear is that this man had a grievance, seen by his jihad and yet, despite his millions, could not get redress through a lack of global impartial grievance systems. (see Summary of Conclusions point 6, for an International Court of Justice) Secondly that the freezing of terrorist assets by the US Anti Terrorism Act in 1996 had little or no effect on the capacity to do great harm. Thirdly that despite great cost and threat to world peace the "threat" of Bin Laden has not been proven to have gone away.

Globalisation, we are told is an inevitable process of Industrialised world and technology enhancements, however global structures and systems have not kept pace to date, and that tragedies like Bhopal will continue until we get Ethical Impact surveys.(Prism)
